How to: Connect MAX to Bluetooth

To get the most out of your device, connect MAX with the Sailmon App and keep it updated. Below you will find instructions on how to connect MAX with the internet using Bluetooth and your phone.

Make sure your phone has an active internet connection, this can be WiFi or Mobile Data.

Apple

1. iPhone: Go to Setting > Personal Hotspot > Toggle on
2. iPhone: Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Enable Bluetooth and leave the screen open
3. Sailmon MAX: Go to Menu > System > Disable WiFi by unchecking ‘Enable WiFi’
4. Sailmon MAX: Go to Menu > System > Connections > Bluetooth Internet (MAX is now discoverable on your phone)
5. iPhone: Scroll down to Other Devices > select Sailmon MAX-[SERIAL NUMBER]
6. Sailmon MAX: Wait until you see the text ‘Bluetooth Paired – Connected to phone’
7. When the network has been setup correctly MAX will show a Bluetooth icon in the bottom right corner
8. Check if your MAX is online: Go to Menu > System > System Info. Check if its say ‘Communication: Online’

Android

1. Android phone: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & Tethering > Toggle on Bluetooth Tethering
2. Android phone Go to Settings > Connected Devices > Enable Bluetooth and leave the screen open
3. Sailmon MAX: Go to Menu > System > Disable WiFi by unchecking ‘Enable WiFi’
4. Sailmon MAX: Go to Menu > System > Connections > Bluetooth Internet (MAX is now discoverable on your phone)
5. Android phone: Select Pair new device > select Sailmon MAX-[SERIAL NUMBER] and follow the instruction on screen
6. Sailmon MAX: Wait until you see the text ‘Bluetooth Paired – Connected to phone’
7. When the network has been setup correctly MAX will show a Bluetooth icon in the bottom right corner
8. Check if your MAX is online: Go to Menu > System > System Info. Check if its say ‘Communication: Online’

After Setup

Do not forget to enable WiFi again on the MAX. The saved Bluetooth network will show under Menu > System > Connections > Networks, MAX will automatically connect to the phone’s Bluetooth when:

  • No known WiFi network is in reach.
  • The phone has (1) Bluetooth enabled, (2) has an active internet connection and (3) ‘Personal Hotspot’ is enabled on iPhone, or ‘Bluetooth Tethering’ when using Android.

Note: that the iPhone Personal Hotspot or Android Bluetooth Tethering might automatically disable when switching networks and might need to be enabled again.
